Dojran Lake is the smallest of the three tectonic lakes in the Republic of Macedonia and is located in south-eastern Macedonia, on the Macedonian – Greek border. Dojran Lake covers area of 43km² and its average depth is 6, 7 meters. This lake has the biggest rate of fish production in Europe. Fishing is done in the old traditional way, by using birds-Cormorants. From the wooden houses built on the lake, the fishermen use trained birds to drive the fish into their nets. A similar method of fishing exists only in distant China, and is carried out during the winter. Dojran Lake is also rich in vegetation. The algae that generate and emit iodine must be mentioned, as they make the water suitable for balneal therapy.
